Following the Geneva conference as well as the Munich Security Conference and the agreements reached between the United States and Russia on the issue of Syria, hopes grew about finding a peaceful solution to Syria crisis in the way that had been mentioned in the final statement of the Munich Security Conference as well. The statement had specified that all sorts of hostile operations against Syria must come to an end. However, conflicts have been seen in recent behavior of Saudi Arabia and Turkey, which by no means signal the possibility of ceasefire or peaceful resolution of Syria crisis and mostly prove that Ankara and Riyadh are still insisting on their past position, which requires the downfall of the government in Damascus. Saudi Arabia has announced that it is planning to dispatch ground forces to Syria and has already stationed a number of its military planes at Turkey’s Incirlik Air Base. Saudi Arabia’s position on the need to militarily interfere in Syria and topple the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad has no legal basis and it is not clear how Adel al-Jubeir, foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, allows himself to call for the overthrow of the president of another country, which is an independent state.
