The human person is a "historical mystery". This expression is useful to say that in each of us coexist the human and the inhuman, and also that each of us is "free" to choose between human and inhuman. It follows that responsibility is the fundamental act of the person as "historical mystery"; we must start from here to rethink and rebuild a truly human coexistence. In short, inhuman lives in each of us but each of us has the opportunity to not choose it. The "responsibility to choose" one way or the other (human or inhuman) makes the person "fully free" or not. In fact, if we choose the human we are "fully free" because we think and practice freedom as liberation; if we choose the inhuman, we exercise a "restricted freedom", act that we can not define "fully free".
