There is no Plan B in Yemen, or in Syria (Raghida Dergham, Al Arabiya)
Let the talk about a Plan B stop out of mercy for the victims of the policies of attrition and the patchwork strategies being pursued in the raging battlefields of Syria and Yemen. There is no Plan B in Syria, because the US administration will not agree to what it will be needed to bring about a qualitative shift in the military equation in Syria, because of the lack of confidence in the abilities of the moderate Syrian rebels, and because the priority for both Washington and Moscow remains the US-Russian accord and de-facto partnership in Syria

Yemen’s Hadi Should Look Southward For Legitimacy—Not North (Adam Simpson, Gulf State Analytics)
In March 2015, Yemeni President Abdrabbo Mansour Hadi was forced to flee the southern city of Aden as Houthi rebels descended on his presidential palace. Since then, he and his government have touted their legitimacy primarily from Saudi Arabia, which is chief among the coalition of nations fighting on Hadi’s behalf to wrest control of Yemen from the Houthis and their ally, former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) support Hadi, and many Yemenis as well see their country’s internationally-recognized government as the least-worst alternative to Houthi domination. However, as the conflict enters its second year, Hadi and his backers have not yet made the case that the government can articulate a viable future.

Why Yemen is more than a war project (Abdulrahman al-Rashed, Al Arabiya)
Ten months ago, three gangs took over Yemen – the Houthi militia, which is linked to Iran, forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who was ousted during the Arab Spring, and Al-Qaeda, which quickly expanded in the vacuum. As a result, Yemen became like Syria where there is fighting between the majority of the Syrian people, who have revolted against the Assad regime which is allied with Iran, and the terrorist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) organization.

Yemen: Cluster Munitions Wounding Civilians (HRW)
The Saudi Arabia-led coalition is using internationally banned cluster munitions supplied by the United States in Yemen despite evidence of civilian casualties, Human Rights Watch said today. Recently transferred US-manufactured cluster munitions are being used in civilian areas contrary to US export requirements and also appear to be failing to meet the reliability standard required for US export of the weapons.
