Are elections possible in Syria? (Raed Omari, Al Arabiya)
Let us put aside the political rhetoric on Syria and think objectively about the efficacy and legitimacy of Russia’s insistence on free and fair elections as the only way to decide the conflict’s most intractable issue, President Bashar al-Assad’s fate

Can the EU-Turkey refugee deal achieve its objectives? (Raed Omari, Al Arabiya)
There is no doubt that the agreement reached between the European Union (EU) and Turkey, to deal with the influx of Syrian refugees, has political dimensions. The deal is also inseparable from Ankara’s quest for a full-fledged membership of the EU and its troubled relationship with the 28-member union. In fact, such is the “unsaid” backdrop of the agreement that the two sides couldn’t mention or even drop a hint.

Can Arab world economies achieve what politics couldn’t? (Raed Omari, Al Arabiya)
We Arabs have been in a state of loss and despair since late 2010. If it is not war, bloodshed and starvation, we encounter instability and insecurity. Even the luckiest among us are at the least worried about developments. It would be no exaggeration to say that all Arabs are either traumatized or are in a state of indifference that has developed over a period of time owing to their inability to keep pace with events they can’t figure out.

Will Hamas, Israel fight again this year? (Raed Omari, Al Arabiya)
Analysts cast doubt on the possibility of a war between Hamas and Israel this year, citing political changes since their last war in 2014. However, the reasons cited are the same ones that make another conflict highly likely. It was said in 2014 that neither side wanted a war due to certain political hindrances, but Israel launched Operation Protective Edge anyway.

When will Jordan get the boost it needs for refugees? (Raed Omari, Al Arabiya)
Jordanian officials’ weariness and dismay over what they always describe as the world’s “forsakenness” of their resource-poor country in the face of the Syrian refugee crisis have been unmistakably replaced by expressions of relief and easiness following the recently concluded Syria Donors Conference in London.
