The recent bribery allegations made against an offshore arm of Leighton Holdings in Iraqand Tabcorp in Cambodia shouldn’t be taken lightly in Australia. They come on the back of the Australian Wheat Board (AWB) oil-for-food scandal, and Securency International and Note Printing Australia bribery charges. In the background, Australia has dropped six places in the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index from seventh equal place in 2012 to thirteenth equal in 2015.

Peace talks in Colombia: another U-turn? (Cesar Alvarez, Alexandra Phelan, ASPI The Strategist)

Six months ago, when President Juan Manuel Santos announced with much fanfare that the Government and FARC had agreed to sign a final peace treaty on 23 March 2016, many in Colombia believed the current round of negotiations had reached a point of no return. Now there’s growing doubt that the promised final settlement will be delivered this week.
